What does a cheap website actually cost in Ireland?

The advertised number is rarely the number. A €300 website usually means the build only — then hosting appears as a separate annual invoice, the domain renews somewhere you cannot see, an SSL certificate is charged as an add-on, and a text change costs an hour of somebody's time. Add it up over three years and the cheap site is frequently the expensive one.

The bigger cost is the one nobody invoices for. A site built cheaply and then abandoned goes stale — wrong opening hours, an old phone number, a form that quietly stopped delivering to an inbox nobody checks. Businesses run for years on a website that has been silently losing enquiries, because nothing announces that it has broken.

So the useful comparison is not build price. It is what you pay over three years and what is included. Ours is €50 a month with nothing upfront, and that covers hosting, the domain, SSL, security, a content update whenever you need one, and your Google Business Profile set up properly. One number, no separate invoices, nothing to renew by surprise.

How is this cheap without being bad?

Fair question, and worth asking anyone quoting a low number. The honest answer is that most of what agencies charge for is not building. It is account managers, offices, sales meetings, and a discovery process that exists partly to justify the fee. Strip those out and the actual work — designing and building a five-page site — is a smaller job than the industry likes to admit.

The rest is architecture. We build static sites: no database, no plugin stack, no monthly patching. That makes them fast and it makes them cheap to keep alive, because almost nothing can break unattended. A WordPress install needs someone watching it every month; a static site does not. That saving is real, and it is why €50 a month covers hosting and support rather than just hosting.

What you are not getting is bespoke design from scratch, unlimited revisions, or a large project team. If you need a booking system, a portal or a calculator, that is genuinely custom work and quoted separately from €1,500 plus €125/month. For a business that needs to look professional, be found locally and collect enquiries, the cheap option and the right option are the same thing.

What is included in €50 a month?

All of it. This is the list most cheap quotes leave out and invoice for later.

Hosting and the domain

Both included, both managed. The domain is registered in your name, not ours, and it renews without you having to remember it.

SSL and security

The padlock in the address bar, kept valid. Static architecture with no database or plugins, so there is very little that can be exploited.

A content update every month

New opening hours, a price change, a few photographs from a recent job. You email it to us and we do it — no charge, no dashboard to learn.

Google Business Profile setup

Claimed, verified and matching your site. For most local businesses this brings in more enquiries than the website itself.

Built for phones first

Most people will see your site on a phone, often on a poor signal. It is designed for that, not squeezed down from a desktop layout.

No surprise invoices

One monthly figure. No separate hosting bill in month three, no renewal that quietly doubles, no charge for a text change.

What should I check before paying anyone?

Four questions, and they matter more than the price. Whose name is the domain registered in? It should be yours. If a designer registers it in theirs, leaving means losing your web address and your email with it, and that is how businesses end up trapped with someone they no longer want.

Second: what is included in the monthly fee, precisely — hosting, the domain, SSL, security, content changes? Third: what does a change cost in a year's time, and how fast does it happen? A cheap build with expensive edits is not cheap if your hours change twice a year. Fourth: what happens if you want to leave, and do you get your content and your domain without an argument?

Our answers: the domain is in your name from day one; the monthly covers everything listed above; content changes are included and you email them to us; and if you leave we hand over the domain and content without fuss. On the €50 plan there are 12 monthly payments because there is nothing to pay upfront — once they are done the site is yours, for a one-off €50 handover fee, and it is €15 a month after that only if you want us to keep hosting it. The €599 once-off option owns the site outright from day one, with no handover fee ever. It is all on the pricing page, and there is more for small businesses and tradesmen specifically.

What cheap web design really costs over three years

Every quote you receive is a setup price, and comparing setup prices is how people end up paying more. A website is a running cost. Here is the same five-page site costed four ways over the three years a small business site typically lasts.

Three-year cost of a five-page business website by route
Route Upfront Monthly 3-year total The trade-off
Cheapest DIY builder €0 €15–30 €540–1,080 You build it, you maintain it, and you never own it. Stop paying and the site disappears the same day.
Typical Irish agency €1,500–3,000 €40–80 care plan €2,940–5,880 A large cheque before you have seen anything, then six to eight weeks of waiting, then changes billed on top.
Our Starter plan €0 €50 €600 + €360 12 monthly payments, then it's yours — €15/mo optional after that, or a €50 fee to take the files.
Our Own It plan €599 Free for 12mo, then €15 €959 You pay something upfront, the first year of hosting is free, and the care plan after that covers small edits rather than a monthly rebuild.

The DIY builder is the expensive option

It looks like the cheap route and it is not. By year three you have spent most of what a freelancer would have charged, you still do not own the site, and you have done every hour of the work yourself. Price your own time at anything above zero and it is the most expensive row in the table.

Low cost is not the same as cheap

The saving does not come from cutting corners on the build — it comes from not carrying an agency's overhead, and from static sites that cost almost nothing to host and cannot be hacked through a plugin. The full Irish market breakdown sets out where the money goes in a typical quote.

What you give up at this price

There are trade-offs. You have already guessed there are, so here they are in full rather than buried in a contract.

You get a proven structure, not a blank canvas

We start from layouts that work for Irish service businesses and shape them around your business, your photos and your words. What you do not get is six weeks of bespoke art direction. For a plumber or a physiotherapist that changes nothing about how many people ring — but if your brand is the product, pay an agency for the bespoke work.

Five pages, not fifty

The Starter plan is a five-page site, and five pages is genuinely enough for most local service businesses. If you need a page per service across three counties, that is the Bigger Brochure plan and it costs more. We will tell you which one you need rather than selling you the cheaper one and letting you find out.

One content update a month

That covers the ordinary changes — prices, hours, staff, a new testimonial, swapping a photo. It does not cover a redesign or a new feature every month. If you genuinely need more, say so and we will move you to the right plan instead of invoicing you per edit.

No shop, no ecommerce

Selling online brings payments, stock, VAT handling, shipping and returns with it. That is real software and it is priced separately. Be wary of anyone folding a shop into a cheap brochure-site price.

We are not an SEO retainer

Every site ships with the basics done properly: clean structure, fast loading, sensible metadata, and your Google Business Profile set up. That is not the same as a monthly SEO campaign, and we do not sell one.

You supply the words, we shape them

We will edit, structure and tighten what you give us, and tell you plainly what is missing. We will not research and write your entire site from nothing as part of a €50 monthly plan.

You may not have to pay full price at all

Irish small businesses can often get part of a website funded, and it is the step most people skip. The Local Enterprise Office grant and the Grow Digital Voucher run on different eligibility rules, so check both — plenty of businesses qualify for one and not the other. We quote in whatever format the application asks for. Full plan detail is on the packages and plans page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the catch?

Three things, and none of them is hidden. First, Starter is 12 monthly payments, not a one-off — we build the site before you pay anything, so the payments are what make that work; once they're done the site is yours, for a one-off €50 handover fee, or €15 a month if you'd like us to keep hosting it. Rather skip that and own it from day one? Take the Own It plan at €599 once, with the first year of hosting included free. Second, it is a five-page site built on a proven structure, not six weeks of bespoke design. If either of those is a problem for your business, we would rather tell you now than have you find out in month three.

Is it actually cheap, or just cheap to start?

Cheap for the whole three years, and the two routes land in much the same place: Starter is €600 to pay the site off, then €15 a month, so €600 + €360 all in. Own It is €959 — €599 upfront, a free first year of hosting, then €15 a month for the remaining two. A typical Irish agency build plus a care plan runs €2,940–5,880 over the same period. Even the cheapest DIY builder reaches €540–1,080 while leaving you to do all the work and own nothing at the end. The price is low and it stays low — your rate is fixed for your term, and the €15 care plan carries no increase at all.

What happens if I stop paying?

On Starter, you can exit a term early by paying whichever is less: the months remaining, or €599. We cap it deliberately — a tie-in you cannot afford to break is not a fair deal at this price. On Own It you already own the site, so there's nothing to buy back and no fee to leave, at the 12-month mark or any time after: we hand over the static files and transfer the domain, and you host it wherever you like. The files are plain HTML and images, so any developer can pick them up.

How much does affordable web design cost in Ireland?

Our Starter plan is €0 upfront and €50/month all-inclusive — hosting, domain, SSL, security and one content update a month are all included. If you'd rather own the site outright, it's €599 once-off with the first year of hosting free, then an optional €15/month after that. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.

Is affordable web design lower quality?

No. We build fast, mobile-first static sites using the same modern engineering standards as larger agencies — the lower price comes from lower overhead, not lower quality.

What's included in the price?

Hosting, domain, SSL, security and maintenance, one content update a month, WhatsApp and contact-form lead capture, and Google Business Profile setup.

How fast can I get an affordable website?

We build your homepage design first, so you can see and approve it before you pay anything. Once approved, most sites are live within 2 weeks.
