What a Dublin business website costs to run

Anywhere from a few hundred euro to twenty thousand, which is why the question is so hard to get a straight answer to. Ask five Dublin web designers and you will get five "it depends" and a request for a discovery call. The spread is real — a five-page site for a local trade and a bespoke platform are genuinely different jobs — but the vagueness mostly serves the seller.

So here is ours, without the call. A five-page site is €0 upfront and €50 a month, including hosting, domain, SSL, security, a content update each month and your Google Business Profile set up properly. Prefer to own it? €599 once — the first year of hosting is free, then €15 a month if you'd like us to keep it looked after. Need ten pages, a blog and quote forms? from €900 as a one-off. Anything involving bookings, payments, portals or calculators is quoted individually, from €1,500 plus €125 a month.

What matters as much as the number is what is not in it. No separate hosting invoice appearing in month three, no charge for a text change, no renewal that quietly doubles. And we build your homepage design before you pay anything — you approve it or you walk away. The full breakdown is on the pricing page, and it is the same for everyone.

Should I hire a freelancer, an agency, or a web design company?

They fail in different ways, which is the useful way to think about it. A freelancer is affordable and you deal directly with the person building the thing — until they take a full-time job, get busy with a bigger client, or simply stop replying. Plenty of Dublin businesses are sitting on a site nobody can log into because the person who built it moved on three years ago.

An agency will not disappear, and for a large project the structure is worth paying for. But you are also paying for account managers, offices and a sales process, the person you met in the pitch is rarely the person doing the work, and a five-page site for a plumber is not a project their model is built around. Small clients tend to get juniors and slow replies.

The questions worth asking are the same whoever you hire. Who actually writes the code. What happens when you need a change in eighteen months. Whose name the domain is registered in. Whether you can see a price before a meeting. If a supplier will not answer those plainly, the size of their operation is not your problem — the evasiveness is.

What should a Dublin business website actually have?

Six things decide whether a local search turns into a phone call. Most sites get three.

The areas you actually cover

Not just 'Dublin'. The suburbs and towns you serve, named. This is what a search for your trade plus an area has to match against.

Some indication of price

A from-price, a typical range, a starting package. The single biggest reason people leave a site is that they cannot tell whether they can afford you.

A phone number that is tappable

Visible without scrolling, on every page, as a real link. A surprising number of Dublin business sites bury the number in a contact form.

A claimed Google Business Profile

For most local businesses this drives more enquiries than the website itself. It needs to be claimed, verified and consistent with the site. Included in every plan.

A page per service, not one long list

Eight services on one page competes for none of them. A page each is how you appear for the specific thing somebody typed.

Speed on a phone, on mobile data

Most local searches happen on a phone, often on a bad signal. A site that takes five seconds to appear has already lost to the one below it.

How do I get my business showing up in Dublin searches?

For a local business, the biggest single lever is not the website at all — it is your Google Business Profile. That is the panel with the map, the opening hours and the reviews, and for searches like "electrician near me" it sits above everything else. If it is unclaimed, or the hours are wrong, or the address does not match your site, you are losing enquiries to businesses that are no better than you.

The website's job is to back that up specifically. Nobody in Dublin searches "web design" — they search a service and a place, and the place is usually a suburb rather than the city. Rathmines. Swords. Blanchardstown. Dún Laoghaire. If your pages never write those words down, there is nothing for Google to match, no matter how good the design is. A page per service, each naming where you work, is the unglamorous thing that does it.

The rest is mechanical: the site loads fast on a phone, the same name, address and phone number appear everywhere, and the technical structure is clean. We build all of that in by default rather than selling it as an SEO retainer afterwards. If you are already invisible and want to know why, start with why your business is not showing up on Google.

What actually happens when we start?

We design your homepage first, before any money changes hands. You look at a real design of your own site — not a template with someone else's logo dropped in — and decide whether to go ahead. If it is not right, we adjust it or you walk away having paid nothing. That is the whole guarantee: we build your homepage design first, and you pay nothing until you approve it.

After approval it is usually two to three weeks. The build itself is quick; what takes time is content, and honestly that part is on you — text about your services, photographs of real work, your opening hours and service areas. We will draft copy if you would rather, but photographs of your own jobs beat stock images every time, particularly for trades.

Then it goes live, the Google Business Profile gets set up or cleaned up, and the monthly side takes over: hosting, security, backups and a content update whenever you need one. You email us, we do it. No dashboard to learn, no plugin updates, nothing that breaks quietly six months later. We build on static architecture precisely so that there is very little that can.

The Dublin areas we build for

This matters more than it sounds. When somebody searches for a trade or a service plus a place — "electrician Stillorgan", "physio Swords" — Google needs text on your site to match against. A page that only ever says "Dublin" matches none of them, and that single omission is the most common reason a perfectly good Dublin business site gets no local traffic.

City centre & inner suburbs

Dublin 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8 — the Liberties, Smithfield, Ranelagh, Rathmines, Ballsbridge, Docklands, Stoneybatter.

North county

Swords, Malahide, Portmarnock, Howth, Balbriggan, Skerries, Santry, Clontarf, Raheny.

West

Blanchardstown, Castleknock, Lucan, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Citywest, Tallaght.

South county

Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock, Stillorgan, Sandyford, Dundrum, Rathfarnham, Foxrock, Killiney.

Everything runs remotely, so where your office is does not limit who we work with — we build for businesses in Cork and Galway too. What matters is that your site names the areas you cover, in the words your customers use for them.

Dublin has four Local Enterprise Offices, not one

This catches people out constantly. Which LEO you deal with is decided by the local authority area your business trades in, and they run their own schedules and their own assessment. Applying to the wrong one wastes weeks.

LEO Dublin City

Dublin City Council area — the centre, Drumcondra, Rathmines, Ballsbridge, the Liberties, the Docklands.

LEO Fingal

Fingal County Council area — Swords, Malahide, Portmarnock, Balbriggan, Blanchardstown's northern edge.

LEO South Dublin

South Dublin County Council area — Tallaght, Clondalkin, Lucan, Rathfarnham, Citywest.

LEO Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown

DLR County Council area — Dún Laoghaire, Blackrock, Stillorgan, Sandyford, Dundrum.

Before you pay full price

A meaningful share of a Dublin small business website can often be grant-funded, and it is the step most owners skip. Eligibility rules and amounts differ between schemes and they change, so check the current position on both the Local Enterprise Office grant and the Grow Digital Voucher — plenty of businesses qualify for one and not the other. We quote in whatever format the application asks for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do your Dublin website plans cost?

Ours are €0 upfront and €50 a month for a five-page site including hosting, domain, SSL, security, one content update a month and Google Business Profile setup, for 12 monthly payments — then it's yours. To own it outright it is €599 once, with the first year of hosting included free and an optional €15/month after that, no minimum. Ten pages with a blog and booking or quote forms is the Bigger Brochure plan, from €900. Booking systems, portals and calculators are quoted from €1,500 plus €125/month. Everything is on the pricing page — no quote required to see a number.

Why 12 monthly payments?

Because there is nothing to pay at the start. We build the site, host it and support it before we have been paid anything, so the twelve payments cover that build. Once they are done the site is yours — stay on the €15/month care plan or take the files for a one-off €50 fee. If you would rather not be tied in at all, the €599 once-off option owns the site outright from day one, with no handover fee ever and a care plan you can cancel any month.

Do I own my website?

On the €599 Own It option, yes, outright. On the monthly plan the site remains ours while you are paying monthly — that is what allows the €0 upfront — but your domain is registered in your name and your content is yours, and we will hand both over if you leave. We will not hold a domain hostage; that practice is why so many Irish businesses are stuck with agencies they dislike.

How long does it take to build?

Two to three weeks for a standard five-page site once we have your content, and the slow part is almost always getting text and photographs from you rather than the building. We design your homepage first and show it to you before anything else — you pay nothing until you approve it.

Which Dublin Local Enterprise Office do I apply to?

Whichever one covers the local authority area your business trades in — Dublin City, Fingal, South Dublin, or Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. Dublin is the only part of the country with four, and applying to the wrong one is a common way to lose a few weeks. They each run their own schedules and their own assessment, so check the current criteria directly with yours before you assume you qualify. Details of what the grant route involves are on our LEO grant page.

Does it matter that my customers are only in one part of Dublin?

It matters a great deal, and in your favour. A site that names Stillorgan, Sandyford and Dundrum will appear for searches a site that only says 'Dublin' never reaches, because there is nothing on the page for those searches to match. Narrow is easier to rank for than broad. Tell us the areas you actually work in and we will write them into the site properly rather than padding a list with places you would not travel to.

Do you only work with businesses in Dublin?

We are Dublin-based and a lot of our work is here, but the whole thing runs remotely and we work with businesses across Ireland. We have pages for Cork and Galway, and plenty of clients are nowhere near either.

Can you fix or take over my existing website?

Usually. If it is a WordPress site that has become slow or insecure, we either maintain it properly or move it to a static build — see WordPress maintenance and security. Run it through our free speed test first and you will have a fair idea of what you are dealing with.

Will my site actually rank on Google?

Nobody can promise a position, and anybody who does is guessing. What we can do is the work that decides it: a page for each service, your areas named properly, a claimed Google Business Profile, fast loading, and clean technical structure. For most local Dublin businesses that is the whole game. The common reasons a site is invisible are set out on this page.

Do I need something more than a normal website?

Most businesses do not. If you need customers booking and paying online, a client portal, an internal dashboard or a calculator, that is application work rather than a website — see web application development. It is quoted from €1,500 plus €125/month, and we will tell you if a standard site would do the job instead.
